New Theme Uploaded!!

Hey readers!!

I just put up the new theme that I have been working on for the past 4-5 days. It has a lot of bugs right now like misplaced ads and misdirecting links. Please be patient while I work out the solutions. Debugging is a cumbersome process!!

Do comment on whether you like the theme or not!! (Please don’t say no!! :) )

How a designer’s mind works…

Hi readers!!

Unfortunately, I have run into some serious problem with the themes. Are you ready to hear it? Can you take it? Okay then, hold your breath. None of the themes is working!! Yes, you read it right. After getting many valuable votes, I had decided to go for theme 2. But unfortunately, that and all others, are crashing Blogger. Whenever I try to change the theme, it gives me the “BX-nnnnn” error. When I looked it up on the net, I found out that it is mostly due to invalid formats and not-so-well parsed pages.

So now I have decided to work on my own theme. I took a theme from btemplates.com, and have started editing it to the max. Here is the progress:

Original Theme:

Update 1:

  • Removed 5px header and footer bars
  • changed main header
  • completely new menu
  • added the search feature
  • played a lot with colors of fonts and borders (that was a very ugly green)
  • changed page scripting a bit to enhance compatibility
  • removed lots of useless code for better pageloads

Update 2:

  • Better search mechanism
  • changed header again
  • subscribe to RSS feature enabled
  • removed ad space (will add it soon though)
  • changes to footer (not shown in image)
  • removed some more useless code (lots of it!! shows that the theme was blatantly copied)

Update 3:

  • changed header
  • changed post icon
  • added social bookmarking bar
  • replaced search code by a more efficient code
  • self-hosted bookmark images to improve pageload time

Update 4:

  • Added a “related posts” script
  • making new subscription buttons :)
  • back-up of all widgets in this blog

Update 5:

  • added custom RSS buttons
  • highly customized translation widget
  • “what’s new”
  • recent comments
  • reordered bookmarking and related post parts
  • self-hosted javascript files (so less references to other servers, thus faster pageloads)
  • self-hosted images of flags (for translation)

More updates coming soon. Do tell me what I can do to improve this theme. If you like this theme, you can contact me to download it for yourself!!

Hey all.

Its been over a week that I posted. The reason is in the last post; I was out of town. I had gone to IIT-Kharagpur. First of all, a very big thanks to all viewers who wished me luck. :)

The trip was great. Even though we couldn’t win the robotics competition, it was a complete success. We were one of the finalists (we wiped out in the finals due to some bad driving). We were also nominated in the best mechanism design category. We lost the title to a freaky wheel-less bot which moved on 4 combs. Before you all get more confused, let me tell you that the competition was to climb and descend a metallic mesh with varying angles of inclination. Photos to be uploaded soon!! (I had taken my handycam to shoot vids… so i will have to take caps first)

Anyways, I had a lot of fun there. The train journey was 24hours each way. All the first years were ragged by the seniors during the journey. (During the stay too). The ragging was quite a lot of fun. eg. they made me sit on the top berth and sing a ‘qawalli’. :) There were a lot of other things that they made us do, but I better not write them here. ;)

The stay was fun, but tiring. Me and some friends had rented cycles from some of the hostelers, and we used to go cycling at 2am in the night. We checked out a lot of restaurants in the campus after midnight only. But the food was not good anywhere. The cycling was fun though.

Getting back to the competition, a team of 2nd year students from my college took the first position in an automated robot competition. A first year student also won the first prize in a solar bot designing competition. She was also the one who got the best mechanism design award for the mesh competition.

Well, the huge variations in temperature (13 to 35 degree celcius) has caused everyone a sore throat. Cycling in the night, and then shouting nonstop in the train made it worse for me. :) Right now i can only whisper even if i want to scream. pretty bad huh?

Anyways, here is a wallpaper with a nice quote that i just came up with. I saw the quote “Been there. Done that.” on a blog today only. That made me think, what about the things that you have not yet tried yet?

The wallpaper is too simple, but I really don’t have the time for details. I have to cover up for the 1 week of lost studies, and with the exams coming up in 2 weeks, i am totally freaked. Even this post has been written over 3 days. (I returned 3 days back on 2nd feb) :) Hope you like the wallpaper.
